About Massage...

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well being to all ages and walks of life.

Stress, anxiety, depression, and other health problems can be improved by the power of touch...one of the oldest and simplest forms of medical care used to ease pain and anxiety and to promote good health.  Also, it is beneficial to people who have special challenges like serious debilitating injury, stroke, neuromuscular disease, MS or fibromyalgia.

How does Massage work?

A gentle massage affects the nervous system through nerve endings in the skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, the body's natural 'feel good' chemicals.  Endorphins induce relaxation and a sense of well-being, to relieve pain and reduce stress chemicals such as cortisol.  A massage also helps reverse the damaging effects of stress by slowing the heart rate, respiration and lowering high blood pressure.  Strong massages stimulate blood circulation to improve oxygen and nutrients to body tissues and help the lymphatic system to flush away waste products.  It also eases tense, knotted muscles and stiff joints, improving mobility and flexibility.

Justin Stone is a Nationally Certified Licensed Massage Therapist with over 250 clinical hours.  He completed 720 hours of schooling at the Alvareita's School of Massage Therapy in Godfrey, Illinois.  His qualifications offer a variety of massage modalities - traditional Swedish Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Reflexology, Prenatal Massage and Infant Massage.

Here in our office, our goal is to tailor the client's experience based on the initial interview information, as well as in-the-minute feedback during the session.  We intend to offer massage that is effective, yet respectful of the client's personal boundaries, so that the experience is relaxing and energizing for both the client and the provider.  We are mindful of the overall experience - using quality oils and lotions, appropriate scents, and soothing music.
